- We only take on the best: every tutor is hand-picked, and students are matched to you by the IB Doctor team.
- When a student fits your subjects you get a Tutoring Opportunity email. Reply straight away: it is first come, first served.
- You schedule every lesson (one or two hours) and open the room from My Classes. Cancel or move a lesson up to 60 minutes before it starts.
- You are paid £30 per hour of completed tutoring, credited automatically and paid out to your bank account whenever you ask.
1Applying and selection
IB Doctor only accepts the best of the best. We take on a tutor only when we are genuinely impressed by their results, their experience and the way they come across, and every application is reviewed by the team personally. Students and parents can count on that.
- 1Apply at ibdoctor.co.uk/become-a-tutor with your details, the qualification you earned and your score, every programme, category and subject you can teach, a note on your experience, an official transcript or certificate (predicted grades are not accepted) and your CV.
- 2Confirm your email address from the verification email.
- 3The team reviews your application. You cannot sign in until it is approved; you are emailed either way.
2Your profile
Students see your profile in the email that introduces you to them, so keep it accurate. Under Profile you can edit your bio, languages and timezone, add your education and experience (with documents, which the team verifies), and request changes to the subjects you teach. Add a bank account under Payout before your first payout.
3Getting students: opportunities and assignment
There are no public tutor profiles and students do not choose tutors. When a student's intake form fits your subjects, the IB Doctor team shortlists a few suitable tutors and emails each of them a Tutoring Opportunity with the subject and what the student needs.
- 1Reply to the opportunity email as soon as you can if you are available. Opportunities are first come, first served, and response times are tracked, so a quick reply means more students over time.
- 2If you are chosen, you receive a confirmation and the student is assigned to you: the email "New student" arrives, the bundle appears under Purchased Bundles, and a conversation with the student is opened in My Messages. If another tutor was chosen, you are told as well.
- 3Message the student the same day to introduce yourself and suggest times for the first lesson. The student has been told to expect this.
Important
Keep every lesson arrangement inside IB Doctor messages. Replies to notification emails go to the IB Doctor team, not to the student.
4Scheduling lessons
Only tutors book lessons. Once a time is agreed, go to Schedule A Session.
- 1Pick the date and start time (shown in your profile timezone), the duration (one or two hours), the student and, if they have more than one, the bundle.
- 2Confirm. The platform checks for clashes, takes the hours from the student's bundle and emails you both. Reminders go out about eight hours and one hour before.
5Running a lesson
Lessons run in Lessonspace, an online classroom in the browser. Each student has their own persistent room with you, so earlier boards and files are still there.
- 1Open My Classes. From ten minutes before the start, click Start Meeting.
- 2The student's Join Session button becomes active and they are emailed that the lesson has started.
- 3The lesson is marked completed automatically after its scheduled end time. Files can be added under Lesson Materials before or after.
Important
A lesson whose room is never opened is marked Didn't Start after its end time: the hours go back to the student, the team is notified, and the lesson is not paid. If it did take place, reply to that email straight away so the team can correct the record.
6Rescheduling and cancelling
- Reschedule or cancel from My Classes up to 60 minutes before the start (a reason is required to cancel). The student is emailed, and on a cancellation the hours return to their bundle at once. Please contact the student to rebook.
- Students can cancel under the same rule; you are emailed with the reason.
- Inside the last hour the platform will not move or cancel a lesson. Message the student and, if needed, IB Doctor Support.
7How you are paid
You are paid £30 per hour of completed tutoring, unless the admin team has agreed a different rate with you. Each completed lesson is credited automatically and shows in your Payout tab: first as pending, then as available to withdraw three days after the lesson, once the refund window has passed.
- 1Under Payout, add your bank account (account holder, account number, bank name and address, and IBAN or sort code where relevant).
- 2Whenever you like, choose the account and Request Payout for your available balance. The team approves it and makes the transfer; you are emailed when that happens.
8Help
- Report an Issue on your dashboard goes straight to the team, for example to record a session held outside the platform.
