I achieved 45 points in the IB and am now studying Aerospace Engineering at Imperial College London. Since I completed the IB relatively recently, I am very familiar with the challenges of the programme, from understanding difficult topics to preparing effectively for exams. I especially enjoy Maths and Physics because success in these subjects is much less about memorising information and much more about understanding a small number of fundamental ideas well. The difficult part is learning to recognise which ideas are relevant and how to combine them when faced with a new problem. That is what I would focus on in my lessons. Rather than simply showing a student which formula or method to use, I want them to understand why it works and how they could recognise a similar approach independently. From there, we can apply that understanding to IB-style questions and develop the exam technique needed to turn it into marks.
