IB Sports, Exercise & Health Science Tutoring
Online IB SEHS tutoring for HL and SL with verified tutors who scored 40+ IB points. Help with the course first examined in May 2026: Paper 1A and 1B, Paper 2 and your scientific investigation.
IB Sports, Exercise and Health Science (SEHS) changed for everyone sitting exams from May 2026. Paper 3 and the four options have gone, and the course is now built on three themes: exercise physiology and nutrition, biomechanics, and sports psychology and motor learning. Your tutor works on what costs you marks: applying the science to unfamiliar sporting and health contexts, Paper 1B data questions, Paper 2 extended responses and the 3,200-word scientific investigation (IA). Sessions are online, at SL or HL.

What You Get with IB Sports, Exercise & Health Science Tutoring
Comprehensive support designed to help you achieve your target grade
Paper 1 and Paper 2 Technique
- Paper 1A: multiple-choice questions across all three themes, with the wrong options explained
- Paper 1B: data-based questions and questions on experimental work, using data you have not seen before
- Paper 2: short answers and extended responses that apply the science to a sporting or health context
- Command terms such as 'outline', 'explain' and 'evaluate', plus the calculations and graph work examiners expect
Scientific Investigation (IA)
- A focused research question with variables you can measure reliably on real participants
- A safe, ethical method with enough trials to trust your data
- A conclusion and evaluation, which together carry half of the 24 marks
- Statistics and evaluation practised on example data, within the 3,200-word limit, while your IA stays your own
Concept Building
- Theme A: communication, hydration and nutrition, and the body's response to exercise
- Theme B: generating movement, forces and motion, and injury
- Theme C: individual differences, motor learning, motivation, stress and coping, psychological skills
- HL depth: for example 31 teaching hours on forces, motion and movement, against 11 at SL
Students Improving Their Sports, Exercise & Health Science Grades
"My tutor connected everything to real sports examples which finally made energy systems and biomechanics click for me."
Jordan P.
SEHS HL, May 2024
"I was struggling with the anatomy and physiology sections until my tutor broke them down with diagrams and practical examples."
Elise K.
SEHS SL, May 2024
"The IA feedback was brilliant. My tutor helped me design a proper experiment and present my data analysis clearly."

IB Sports, Exercise & Health Science Topics We Cover
The current SEHS guide (first teaching August 2024, first assessment May 2026) has three themes and 11 topics. SL and HL study the same topics, but HL spends 180 hours on syllabus content against 110 at SL, so it goes much deeper, especially in forces and motion, the body's response to exercise and motivation. Your tutor can work through any topic in the order your school teaches it.
A. Exercise Physiology and Nutrition
- A.1 Communication (SL 23 h, HL 28 h)
- A.2 Hydration and nutrition (SL 16 h, HL 22 h)
- A.3 Response (SL 8 h, HL 19 h)
B. Biomechanics
- B.1 Generating movement in the body (SL 12 h, HL 17 h)
- B.2 Forces, motion and movement (SL 11 h, HL 31 h)
- B.3 Injury (SL 7 h, HL 9 h)
C. Sports Psychology and Motor Learning
- C.1 Individual differences (SL 4 h, HL 10 h)
- C.2 Motor learning (SL 12 h, HL 12 h)
- C.3 Motivation (SL 8 h, HL 16 h)
- C.4 Stress and coping and C.5 Psychological skills (SL 9 h, HL 16 h)
Experimental Programme
- Practical work (SL 20 h, HL 40 h)
- Scientific investigation, your IA (10 h)
- Collaborative sciences project (10 h, not assessed)
- Tools: experimental techniques, technology and mathematics
Inquiry Skills
- Exploring and designing an investigation
- Collecting and processing data
- Concluding and evaluating
- Nature of science, which runs through all three themes
Removed in 2026 (Old Options)
- Optimizing physiological performance
- Psychology of sport
- Physical activity and health
- Nutrition for sport, exercise and health
IB Sports, Exercise & Health Science Assessment Structure
Since May 2026, IB SEHS has been assessed through Paper 1 (Paper 1A multiple choice and Paper 1B data-based questions and questions on experimental work, 36%), Paper 2 (short-answer and extended-response questions, 40%) and the scientific investigation (IA, 24%). There is no Paper 3 and there are no option topics any more. The weightings are the same at SL and HL; HL papers are longer and cover the extra HL depth.
Paper 1 (1A + 1B)
External AssessmentPaper 1A is multiple choice across the syllabus. Paper 1B has data analysis questions and questions that test experimental skills and techniques. You sit both in one session.
Paper 2
External AssessmentShort-answer and extended-response questions that combine skills, concepts and understanding in a sports, exercise or health context.
Scientific Investigation (IA)
Internal AssessmentAn open-ended investigation of a research question you formulate, written up as a report of up to 3,200 words. Your teacher marks it and the IB moderates the marks.
Key Assessment Notes
- This structure applies to every exam session from May 2026 onwards, including November 2026, May 2027 and May 2028
- Paper 3 and the four options were removed; some of their content moved into the main course at SL and HL
- You may work in a small group and share a similar method, as long as your independent or dependent variable differs and your data is your own
- The collaborative sciences project is a required part of the course but is not one of the assessed components
- Past papers from before 2026 follow the old guide, so use them selectively
