IB Theatre SL & HL Tutoring
Online IB Theatre tutoring at SL and HL for the course first assessed in 2024. Get help with the production proposal, the research presentation on a world theatre tradition, the collaborative project and, at HL, the solo theatre piece based on a theatre theorist.
IB Theatre has no written exam. Since 2024 you have been assessed on a production proposal for a published play, a recorded research presentation on a world theatre tradition, and a collaborative project in which you create, perform and report on original theatre. HL students add a solo theatre piece based on a theatre theorist. Your tutor teaches the skills behind each task, from forming a clear staging vision and researching traditions and theorists properly to performing for camera and writing analytically within the page and word limits, using other plays and practice material, while your proposals, presentations and reports stay your own. Sessions are online and one-to-one, with verified tutors who scored 40+ IB points.

IB Theatre SL & HL Assessment Structure
IB Theatre (first assessed in 2024) is assessed entirely through submitted work, with no written exam. The production proposal is the internal assessment (SL 30%, HL 20%), marked by your teacher and moderated by the IB. The research presentation (SL 30%, HL 20%), the collaborative project (SL 40%, HL 25%) and the HL-only solo theatre piece (35%) are externally assessed by IB examiners.
Production Proposal (internal assessment)
Internal AssessmentYour vision for the design and theoretical staging of a whole published play text you have not studied before
Research Presentation (recorded, externally assessed)
External AssessmentA recorded individual presentation, not a timed exam, on your academic and practical exploration of a world theatre tradition you have not studied before
Collaborative Project (externally assessed)
External AssessmentAn original piece of theatre created with your ensemble from a starting point you choose and presented to an audience as a fully realised production
Solo Theatre Piece (HL, externally assessed)
External AssessmentA solo piece for an audience that applies an aspect of the theory of a theatre theorist you have not studied before
Key Assessment Notes
- There is no written exam in IB Theatre. External tasks are recordings and reports marked by IB examiners.
- The course first assessed in 2024 replaced the director's notebook with the production proposal, which is now the internal assessment, and made the collaborative project an external task.
- Every ensemble member performs in the collaborative project and is also assessed on their own contribution as creator, designer and/or director.
- The play text, tradition and theorist you use must be ones you have not studied before.
