Worth knowing
- Published IB benchmark: 32 points, not counting the 3 core points (TOK and EE).
- The International Baccalaureate is named as an example of a foreign diploma that enables studies at the university.
- A foreign upper secondary certificate must be based on a formal general education, substantially equivalent to a Swiss maturity, including a total school duration of 12 years.
- The required subjects must be respected for the last three years of upper secondary education.
- If upper secondary studies took place in several educational systems, the diploma is recognised only if the last three years were equivalent to the Swiss upper secondary level and each of those three years was successfully completed.
- Depending on the country list, candidates may need a certificate proving admission to a recognised university in the country that issued the certificate.
- Depending on the country list, candidates may have to pass the Complementary Examination of the Swiss Higher Education Institutions (ECUS), which is held only in summer and must be taken in Switzerland before the semester begins (mid-August).
- Candidates who must take the ECUS can only apply for the autumn semester.
- Candidates finishing their school-leaving certificate in summer are strongly advised to apply for the autumn semester of the following year, since same-year autumn admission is virtually impossible due to time constraints.
- Applications can be submitted before the school-leaving certificate has been obtained.
- Application fee for a foreign diploma such as the IB is CHF 100, with an additional CHF 50 administrative fee for late applications; the fee is non-refundable.
- Additional admission conditions may apply depending on the country list.
- Human medicine: aptitude test if oversubscribed.
