Worth knowing
- Published IB benchmark: 32 points, not counting the 3 core points (TOK and EE).
- The page does not give IB-specific requirements; it states that the requirements for the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the European Baccalaureate are consulted separately, and that additional IB information is available through a link.
- A foreign diploma must be equivalent for the most part in hours and subjects to a Swiss gymnasium maturity. Giving access to university in the issuing country is not enough on its own.
- The diploma must be the highest secondary certificate in the country of issue, obtained after at least 12 years of study, from an upper secondary programme of at least three years.
- The programme content must have at least 90% general education subjects. In the last three years, six independent subjects must have been studied continuously: language of instruction, second language, mathematics, an experimental science, a humanities subject and an elective.
- Philosophy and computer science can only be chosen as the 6th (elective) subject.
- The country-specific requirements list is valid only for academic year 2026-2027 and may be changed by the Rectorate at any time. The list gives minimum requirements, so the required subjects must also be fulfilled.
- Documents not in English, French, German or Italian need an official translation.
- A certificate of university admission from a recognised university in the diploma country may be required, and must be provided before 31 July.
- The original diploma must be provided as soon as it is obtained, and in any case before the start of classes (week 38).
- Part-time bachelor study (50%) is possible for health, family, professional or personal-project reasons. Non-EU/EFTA students who come to Switzerland solely to study are excluded from part-time study.
- Medicine: no cap in year one; selection at the end of the first year.
