How to apply
Direct application via the university's online portal (online.uni-graz.at). Applicants create a basic account and select the higher education entrance qualification '46 - IB Diploma (foreign country)' if applying with an IB Diploma from abroad. They then create an application for a degree programme and upload documents. The university reviews the application (weeks to months), and then the applicant submits a signed application for enrollment and pays the ÖH/tuition fee.
Language requirements
- Bachelor's and Diploma programmes are taught in German, so applicants need a high level of German.
- With no German or less than A2, applicants cannot apply for a degree programme and must first learn German to A2 and obtain an accepted language certificate.
- With German at level A2, applicants can apply with a suitable certificate, are admitted to a preparation programme, and can start studying once they reach C1.
- With German at level C1, applicants can apply with a suitable certificate and start studying once the application is completed.
- Some Master's programmes are taught in English and require an English language certificate; no German is needed for them.
- The admission procedure is held in German and requires very good German (C1).
- The Bachelor's programme English/American Studies and the teaching subject English require a placement test proving B2 English.

Worth knowing
- The university treats applicants with a school-leaving qualification from outside Austria as international applicants, and their qualification must be checked, which takes longer than for national applicants.
- Translations and certifications may be required; documents not in German or English need a translation by a sworn translator, and foreign documents must be legalised.
- Applicants must show proof of a general higher education entrance qualification, such as a secondary school leaving certificate with senior-year school reports.
- The admission procedure costs €50 per degree programme.
- If knowledge or prior education is lacking, applicants may be admitted to a preparation programme (e.g. German, biology, mathematics) and can only start studying after completing it.
- Non-EU/EEA/Swiss/Liechtenstein/Norway/Iceland students pay different tuition fees.
