Study with the IB

Studying in Austria with the IB

Austria treats the IB Diploma as a foreign school-leaving certificate that proves the general university entrance qualification. Most programmes are open-access with no grade competition; restricted fields such as medicine or psychology select by entrance exam (for medicine, the MedAT), and German-taught programmes require language proof up to C1.

How admission works

  1. 1The IB counts as your entrance qualification; some programmes add supplementary exams (e.g. Latin) in subjects not taken at school.
  2. 2For restricted fields, register for the entrance exam (medicine: MedAT, registration in March, test in early July).
  3. 3Prove German (up to C1) and enrol directly with the university.
