Worth knowing
- The page states that an IB Diploma earned under the rules of the International Baccalaureate Organization is treated as a foreign school-leaving certificate (ausländisches Reifezeugnis) for admission to Austrian public universities, private universities, universities of applied sciences and teacher-training colleges.
- This also applies when the IB Diploma was completed at a school located in Austria.
- Placement in the 'Österreich-Kontingent' (Austria quota) is not possible on the basis of the IB Diploma alone.
- Holders of a school-leaving certificate from Luxembourg or Liechtenstein are treated as equivalent to holders of an Austrian certificate under bilateral agreements and are assigned to the Austria quota.
- Holders of a European Baccalaureate certificate are assigned to the Austria quota.
- The Austria quota can be reached through the Personengruppenverordnung groups, for example: privileged persons and their families, accredited foreign journalists and their families, persons with five consecutive years of main residence in Austria before first applying (or with a legally obligated maintenance provider who meets this), certain scholarship holders, holders of certificates from Austrian schools abroad or German/Ladin-language South Tyrol secondary schools, and persons entitled to reside in Austria under asylum law.
- For more information on the IB Diploma and recognition, the page refers to the website of the Austrian Federal Ministry (BMBWF).
