Subject and level conditions

  • For the bachelor programmes Architektur, Bauingenieurwesen, Geodäsie und Geoinformation, Maschinenbau, Verfahrenstechnik and Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen-Maschinenbau, at least 4 weekly hours of Darstellende Geometrie (descriptive geometry) after school year 8 must be proven; Geometrisches Zeichnen is not accepted as a substitute.
  • If descriptive geometry cannot be proven, a supplementary exam must be passed during the bachelor programme, at the latest before the last bachelor exam; TU Wien offers courses for this.

How to apply

The IB Diploma is listed among the certificates for which direct admission is possible in person at the Admission Office (Studienabteilung) with the original or a certified copy of the certificate (German or English translation) and the other required documents, without a prior written application; it must be combined with a C1 German certificate. Separately, pre-registration plus either an admission procedure or a study preparation and reflection phase (VoR-Phase) is required before enrolment.

Language requirements

  • The IB Diploma is listed as a certificate allowing direct admission together with a C1 German certificate.
  • For applications requiring a written application, proof of German skills at level A2 or C1 (certified copy) is among the required documents.
  • If proof of German at level C1 is missing, the supplementary exam in German must be taken in addition to any other prescribed supplementary exams.

Courses with restricted admission

  • Informatik (admission procedure, limited places)
  • Architektur und Raumplanung (admission procedure, limited places)

Deadlines

  • Pre-registration including the study VoR-Phase must be fully completed by 5 September (winter semester) or 5 February (summer semester).
  • Admission period winter semester 2026/27: 6 July to 31 October 2026.
  • Admission period summer semester 2027: 7 January to 31 March 2027.

  • Registration for the Vorstudienlehrgang is required by 13 August (winter semester) or 19 January (summer semester).

Worth knowing

  • Admission with an international school-leaving certificate requires a certificate equivalent to the Austrian Matura.
  • Technische Chemie has no admission procedure or VoR-Phase in winter semester 2026/27.
  • Where a written application is needed, it must be sent by post; electronically submitted applications are not processed.
  • Processing of applications can take 10-12 weeks.
  • Prescribed supplementary exams (German, mathematics, chemistry and/or physics) are taken in the Vorstudienlehrgang der Wiener Universitäten.
  • A maximum of 2 admission applications per person is allowed.
  • The recommended submission window for winter semester is 16 January to 15 July for non-EU/EEA citizens and early February to end of July for EU/EEA citizens.
