Subject and level conditions
- Several bachelor programmes (Energietechnik, Materialwirtschaft und Werkstofftechnologie, Metallurgie und Metallkreisläufe, Montanmaschinenbau, Recyclingtechnik, Rohstoffingenieurwesen, Umwelt- und Klimaschutztechnik) require knowledge of Descriptive Geometry (Darstellende Geometrie); this can also be made up alongside the studies through a supplementary exam (Ergänzungsprüfung) if needed.
How to apply
Direct application to the university: first an online pre-registration in MUonline (create a basic account, enter the application, upload documents, submit), then personal completion of admission (Inskription) at the Study Support Center with original documents, booked via Timify or by walking in during opening hours. For certificates from EU/EEA/CH, the Study Support Center checks the digital documents first and sends an invitation to enrol. For third-country certificates, the documents are checked in a lengthy process, originals must be sent by post after a positive decision, and only then can an admission notice be issued.
Language requirements
- General bachelor admission requires proficiency in the language of instruction of the chosen programme, at least level B2.
- Applicants with language skills from level A2 can complete the necessary language training and exam in the university's preparatory language course (Vorstudienlehrgang) at Montanuniversität Leoben.
- Applicants with a school-leaving certificate from the EU/EEA/Switzerland or a non-EU third country must submit a language certificate (Sprachnachweis).
- Applicants with an Austrian school-leaving certificate may optionally submit proof of English when enrolling in an English-taught bachelor programme, if English is not part of their certificate.
Courses with restricted admission
- Since 1 November 2024, applicants to the English-taught bachelor programmes (Circular Engineering, Geoenergy Engineering, Responsible Consumption and Production) must pass a mandatory aptitude assessment (Eignungsüberprüfungsverfahren), regardless of nationality; third-country applicants must submit the certificate of completion.
Worth knowing
- The basic requirement for bachelor admission is a school-leaving certificate (Reifezeugnis); the university's admissions pages do not mention the IB Diploma specifically.
- For certificates from outside Austria, the university states that whether general university entrance qualification is met is determined in a lengthy review only after a formally complete online application is received, so no advance statement about the suitability of a particular foreign certificate can be made.
- Foreign-language documents must be translated into German or English by a sworn, court-certified translator; certified copies of the certificate may be necessary.
- Applications for bachelor admission (programmes without an admission procedure) can only be submitted during the application periods: winter semester 1 March to 5 September (third-country certificates: 23 February to 30 April).
- Bachelor programmes are offered in German and in English.
- Persons without a school-leaving exam can acquire general university entrance qualification for mining-related bachelor programmes by passing the Studienberechtigungsprüfung at TU Graz.
