Subject and level conditions
- Bachelor's programs Biology and Applied Environmental and Geosciences, and the teacher training subject Biology and Environmental Education, require proof of at least 4 weekly hours of Biology from 9th grade onward (the English page gives this as age 14 in Austria). Without this proof, an additional exam in Biology is needed.
- Some programs require Greek as an additional qualification. The additional exam is waived with proof of at least 10 weekly hours of Greek at school (the English page says from 9th grade; the German page says from the 8th school grade at a higher secondary school).
- Some programs require Latin as an additional qualification. The additional exam is waived with proof of at least 10 weekly hours of Latin at school.
- For most programs the Greek or Latin additional exam can be taken during studies (for Diploma studies by the end of the first stage). It must not be the final exam of the studies or stage. For some programs (a few, in the case of Latin) the proof is required before admission.
How to apply
The IB Diploma (per the regulations of the International Baccalaureate Organization) is listed as one of the accepted admission conditions for applicants with Austrian, German or other EU/EEA citizenship. Proof of school hours is submitted at personal enrolment. Applicants who completed school outside the EU/EEA/CH are referred to the information for international students.
Courses with restricted admission
- Teacher Training (Secondary School): a qualitative selection process must be passed before enrolment; some subjects also have a subject-related test.
- Psychology (Bachelor's and Master's): an entrance test must be passed.
- Sport and Exercise Science (Bachelor's) and the teacher training subject Sports and Exercise: an athletic aptitude test must be passed before admission.
Worth knowing
- Austria has no Numerus Clausus.
- The German Fachhochschulreife is not accepted for enrolment in Austria.
- The German Fachgebundene Hochschulreife only qualifies for the subjects listed on the certificate.
