How to apply
For applicants with a foreign school-leaving certificate: submit a signed application form to the Admissions team (OU Studies and Teaching Management) and send the original documents by post. For Medicine (UO 202) and Dentistry (UO 203), applicants must also go through the admissions procedure or take a lateral entry exam.
Language requirements
- Admission requires German, or English if the degree program is taught in English, at a level sufficient to succeed in the studies.
- If a foreign school-leaving certificate is not equivalent, the additional exams in the university preparation program include German at C1 level.
Courses with restricted admission
- Medicine diploma program (UO 202): admissions procedure or lateral entry exam required
- Dentistry diploma program (UO 203): admissions procedure or lateral entry exam required
Deadlines
- Complete application for the winter semester: by September 5
- Complete application for the summer semester: by February 5
Worth knowing
- The page does not mention the IB Diploma specifically, so IB acceptance and points are not stated.
- A foreign qualification can prove general university entrance qualification if it gives access to all sectors of higher education in the issuing state.
- A foreign qualification also needs at least 12 years of schooling.
- The qualification must be predominantly general education, shown by six general subjects at secondary level II: two languages, mathematics, one natural science, one humanities subject and one more general subject.
- If schooling lasts only 11 years or general educational content is missing, the rectorate may prescribe up to 4 additional exams before admission.
- Additional exams can be taken in the university preparation program and cover biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and German.
- Not all foreign school-leaving certificates are equivalent to Austrian ones.
- The school-leaving certificate must include the grades in the exam subjects.
- Proof of prior academic achievements from the issuing country is also required, for example semester grade reports or transcripts of records.
- Foreign-language documents need translations unless originally issued in English.
- Documents may need certification, depending on the issuing country: none, apostille, or full diplomatic certification.
- Applications are reviewed in the order received, and incomplete documents trigger a written request to complete them.
