- Applicants to German-language degree programs whose first language is not German must show German proficiency at level A2.
- An IB diploma counts as proof of German level B2 if German is taken as Language A with a minimum grade of 4.
- An IB diploma counts as proof of German level B2 if German is taken as Language B with a minimum grade of 5 at HL or 7 at SL.
- An IB diploma counts as proof of German level C1 if German is taken as Language A with a minimum grade of 6.
- An IB diploma counts as proof of German level C1 if German is taken as Language B with a minimum grade of 7.
Deadlines
- EU/EEA citizens and equivalent groups, start in winter semester: general admission period from early July to September 5; exceptional cases from September 6 to October 31.

Worth knowing
- Educational qualifications count as international if the applicant did not pass an Austrian Matura or Austrian university enrollment eligibility examination, or attended an international school in Austria.
- Applicants with international qualifications apply online through JKU MyAdmission using an applicant account, and must upload proof of their prior education and a portrait photo.
- The admission application is free of charge and must be submitted personally. Applications submitted by an agency or placement organization are not processed.
- Application documents not issued in German or English must be translated by a court-sworn translator after legalisation.
- A language certificate must not be older than 2 years at the time of application. This does not apply to school-leaving certificates, degrees, or proof of the supplementary German examination passed in a University Preparation Programme.
- A letter of admission may carry conditions, such as supplementary German or subject-area examinations, which must be fulfilled for admission.
- Applications may be submitted one month before the general admission period begins.
- Applicants from non-EU/EEA countries must submit their application six months before the start of studies.
