Subject and level conditions
- The IB Diploma can count as a direct university entrance qualification (HZB) only if the conditions of the Kultusministerkonferenz agreement on recognising the IB Diploma for the relevant application semester are met.
- One of those conditions is that all subjects in the IB programme were taken continuously over two years in ascending order.
- To verify continuous subject enrolment, applicants must submit the IB Diploma certificate plus all reports from the last two school years of the IB programme, including subject and grade overviews.
How to apply
Applicants with foreign qualifications, including the IB Diploma, must always apply to TU Berlin first. They need a Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD) from uni-assist issued for TU Berlin, then apply through the TU Berlin application portal by the deadline.
Language requirements
- Applicants with foreign qualifications always need German language proof; English proof may also be needed at a certain level.
- Bachelor programmes: a fully earned IB Diploma with German as Language A (Standard or Higher Level) or German as Language B (Higher Level) counts as German proof only if German citizenship is also shown (ID card or passport).
- Bachelor programmes: accepted German proofs include DSH-2 or DSH-3, TestDaF 4-4-4-4, DSD II, Goethe-Zertifikat C2 (GDS), ÖSD C2 and telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule.
- Bachelor programmes: a Gemischtsprachiges International Baccalaureate from foreign schools with German instruction (Language A SL/HL or Language B HL) is listed among school certificates needing no further German proof.
- Studienkolleg admission: a fully earned IB Diploma with German as Language A (Standard or Higher Level) or German as Language B (Higher Level) counts as German proof, with no German citizenship condition stated; other accepted proofs include a B2 certificate.
- Language certificates must be final versions; provisional certificates, course registrations or attendance confirmations are generally not sufficient.
- Language proofs are uploaded only in the TU Berlin application portal; uni-assist does not check them for TU Berlin.
Worth knowing
- For the IB Diploma, the country of the entrance qualification is treated as Switzerland, regardless of where the IB Diploma was earned.
- In anabin the IB Diploma is found under the keyword International Baccalaureate.
- If the final IB Diploma or IB results have not yet been received in the current application period, a VPD can still be requested from uni-assist.
- The VPD takes about 4 to 6 weeks to process, is valid for one year after issue, and requires a processing fee paid to uni-assist.
- Without a VPD issued for TU Berlin, an application is not possible.
- The application deadline cannot be extended and documents cannot be submitted late; incomplete applications are rejected.
- TU Berlin offers no conditional or provisional admission.
- Enrolment without prior application and admission is not possible, even for programmes without NC.
