How to apply
Applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification, including an IB obtained at an international school in Germany, must first apply via uni assist, which checks the certificates and calculates an average grade. If the certificate is sufficient and the documents are complete, uni assist forwards the application data to TU Dresden, so a second application via the TU Dresden portal is not needed.
Language requirements
- Applicants whose university entrance qualification was not obtained at a German institution must prove knowledge of German; this also applies to applicants with German citizenship.
- The German-proof requirement does not apply to master's courses taught in English.
Courses with restricted admission
- Numerus clausus (NC) courses use a specific selection process/ranking for admission; which courses are NC and the required documents and deadlines are listed from around May in the Study Information System (SINS) and on the TU Dresden overview of selection procedures.
- Medicine and Dentistry applicants who previously studied these subjects and want a higher semester must have previous foreign coursework recognised by the Landesprüfungsamt (LPA); contact the Medical Faculty.
Worth knowing
- The IB Diploma is generally recognised if the requirements set by the decision of the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) are fulfilled; this is stated for both German and foreign-national applicants.
- Admission with a foreign qualification follows the KMK assessment guidelines.
- uni assist checks documents only for the respective TU Dresden application and does not issue an official recognition notice usable for other applications.
- Some courses may require proof of practical training or work, or an aptitude test for artistic or language-related courses; requirements are found in the study regulations and in SINS.
- Admission can be refused despite a sufficient entrance qualification on grounds set out in the Saxon University Freedom Act (SächsHSFG), e.g. missing health insurance proof or a restricted-admission course in which the applicant is not admitted.
