How to apply

Applicants holding an IB Diploma must request a preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist and upload it with their application, which is submitted through the CAMPUSonline application portal during the programme's application period. The VPD must be requested by the programme's application deadline, and a grace period of up to four weeks applies for submitting it afterwards. A VPD issued for another university is not accepted. For the programme-specific application process, applicants are pointed to the programme finder, under 'Application with non-EU nationality' for IB holders without EU nationality, or 'Enrolment/Application with EU nationality' for German or EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with a foreign qualification.

Language requirements

  • Applicants with a foreign higher education entrance qualification, including the IB, who are German nationals must submit proof of German language proficiency before admission.
  • EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with a foreign higher education entrance qualification, including the IB, must submit proof of German language proficiency before admission for all German-language degree programmes.
  • Non-EU/EEA/Swiss applicants with a foreign higher education entrance qualification, including the IB, must submit sufficient proof of language proficiency within the application period for international applicants.

Deadlines

  • The VPD must be requested from uni-assist by the application deadline of the chosen degree programme.
  • A grace period of up to four weeks after the application deadline applies for uploading the VPD, provided it was requested on time; this may be shorter for programmes with restricted admission or aptitude procedures.
  • Application periods depend on nationality, and non-EU/EEA/Swiss applicants with a foreign qualification (including the IB) have separate application deadlines.
  • There are no application deadlines for degree programmes with unrestricted admission for German nationals with a foreign qualification (including the IB) and for EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with a foreign qualification.

Worth knowing

  • The page directs applicants to anabin (the official KMK database) for information on the IB Diploma, by selecting 'International Baccalaureate' from the country list.
  • The university does not carry out preliminary evaluations of entrance qualifications; certificates are checked only after an application with the required documents has been submitted.
  • IB graduates are not considered 'Bildungsinländer'.
  • All applicants with an International Baccalaureate Diploma must obtain a VPD from uni-assist.
  • uni-assist processing takes about 6-8 weeks according to the page; the VPD is valid for 1 year from issue, and the university accepts it for up to two years in case of re-admission if the qualification and admission requirements are unchanged.
  • A VPD request via uni-assist alone does not count as an application to the University of Bayreuth.
  • Uni-assist charges handling fees for the evaluation of certificates.
  • The university's admissions pages do not state a minimum IB point score or subject requirements.
