How to apply

Applications are submitted via the SIM application portal; preliminary review documentation from uni-assist must be uploaded to the university before the deadline. Foreign certificates are assessed by uni-assist and the university.

Language requirements

  • Applicants whose German is not yet good enough, and who hold a recognized entrance qualification giving direct access to German university study, can apply for a preparatory German language course that prepares for the DSH language exam.

Courses with restricted admission

  • Biology (DoSV procedure, local restricted entry)
  • Psychology (DoSV procedure, local restricted entry)
  • Medicine (places administered nationally)
  • Dentistry (places administered nationally)
  • Pharmaceutical Science (places administered nationally)

Deadlines

  • Application for a local restricted-entry degree programme for the winter semester (including DoSV programmes Biology and Psychology): until 15 July
  • Clearing scheme application for local restricted-entry programmes for the winter semester (online only): until 15 September
  • Local clearing application for Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Science for the winter semester (online only): until 30 September
  • Enrolment in non-restricted-entry programmes for the winter semester: until 30 September

Worth knowing

  • The International Baccalaureate Diploma issued by the International Baccalaureate Organization is accepted as a valid higher education entrance qualification, provided it was awarded after at least twelve years of full-time education in ascending year groups and certain other criteria are met.
  • The university's admissions pages do not state what the other criteria are.
  • Application deadlines are strict: all documents must be uploaded in the SIM portal before the deadline, and late uploads are not possible. Applicants who miss it must reapply in the following semester.
  • Preliminary review documentation from uni-assist issued for another university is accepted.
  • Applicants who passed the Feststellungsprüfung still need to submit preliminary review documentation.
  • Overall grade conversion of foreign certificates follows Kultusministerkonferenz guidance and ZAB country-specific proposals in the anabin database.
  • Applicants are told the admission result within four weeks after the submission deadline.
  • For the winter semester, admission letters for local restricted-entry programmes are usually sent in August, and those admitted usually enrol in August.
  • Key dates for Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Science and DoSV programmes are published on hochschulstart.de.
