How to apply

Direct, independent online application via ZEuS, the university's central enrolment and student portal. Applications submitted through placement agencies are not accepted. Programmes that take part in the DoSV require prior registration at hochschulstart.de, before the ZEuS online application starts.

Language requirements

  • Applicants whose university entrance qualification was not earned at a German or German-language school must prove good German skills with a DSH certificate or an equivalent certificate. This proof is due at the time of application.

Deadlines

  • Admission-restricted programmes: 15.7 for the winter semester, 15.01 for the summer semester (exclusion deadlines).
  • Programmes without admission restriction: 15.09 for the winter semester, 15.03 for the summer semester (exclusion deadlines).
  • For a programme with several sub-programmes (e.g. teacher training) where one subject is admission-restricted, the deadline for restricted programmes applies.
  • Applicants who want to be assigned to the Studienkolleg are advised to apply early and to complete the online application by 15.7 (winter semester) or 15.1 (summer semester).

Worth knowing

  • The page applies to applicants who obtained their university entrance qualification outside Germany. It does not mention the IB Diploma by name.
  • Certificates must be uploaded in the original language together with official German or English translations. Only translations by sworn or state-recognised translators are accepted.
  • Required documents include the secondary school leaving certificate with a subject and grade overview, a tabular CV, proof of German skills (DSH or equivalent) and proof of participation in the orientation procedure.
  • Applicants for Sport (B.E.) or Sportwissenschaft (B.A.) must also show proof of a passed sports entrance exam.
  • Applicants may apply for up to three programmes, but only one of them may be without admission restriction.
  • In admission-restricted programmes, 8% of places (at least one) are reserved for non-EU/EEA foreign applicants who are not treated as equivalent to German applicants.
  • In admission-restricted programmes, 90% of the remaining places are awarded by suitability and 10% by waiting time. Suitability is normally judged by the average grade of the entrance qualification plus vocational training, practical experience, extracurricular achievements and voluntary work.
  • Applicants admitted to an admission-restricted programme usually have 9 to 14 calendar days to accept the place.
