Studying at Universität Passau with the IB

• Whether the IB Diploma counts as a general university entrance qualification depends on the applicant's subject choices.

If you hold a document proving entitlement to study at a German university (general or subject-specific Hochschulzugangsberechtigung), you apply directly to the university. If you have not obtained or cannot obtain such a document, you must apply through uni-assist.

• German A at Higher Level, studied throughout school and successfully completed as part of the IB Diploma, is accepted as proof of German proficiency.
• Applicants without German A HL need another recognised German language certificate.

• The IB Diploma can, in certain cases, be recognised as a general university entrance qualification (allgemeine Hochschulzugangsberechtigung).
• Applicants who gained the IB at a school in Germany should ask their school whether and how to obtain a HZB, or contact the Bavarian certificate recognition office (Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle) for advice.

• Possible recognition outcomes include direct general admission, direct subject-restricted admission, or admission to a preparatory course (Studienkolleg) / assessment examination.
