How to apply
International applicants submit an online application for the chosen programme. For most undergraduate subjects this goes through the Campusportal online platform. Enrolment follows only after the application has been reviewed and admission granted. Applicants from EU states for human or dental medicine apply via the hochschulstart service. Only certain combinations of nationality and subject require application through a central service point.
Courses with restricted admission
- Human medicine and dental medicine: applicants from EU states apply through the hochschulstart service.
- Admission-restricted programmes: application either via hochschulstart.de or directly to the university.
- Some programmes (e.g. art, sport) require an aptitude test or aptitude assessment before admission.
- Some programmes require timely pre-registration; only those who register within the deadline get a place.
- Master's programmes require passing an aptitude procedure, with requirements varying by programme.
Deadlines
- 15 January for the summer semester (Bachelor, Staatsexamen, Studienkolleg)
- 15 July for the winter semester (Bachelor, Staatsexamen, Studienkolleg)
- Master's and double-degree programmes: faculties decide on deadlines and additional aptitude tests directly
Worth knowing
- International applicants need a 'direct' university entrance qualification (HZB) to study in Germany.
- This qualification is often obtained with the secondary-school leaving certificate that qualifies for university study in the home country.
- In some cases a school certificate is not enough and one to two years of study at a home-country university must also be shown.
- Applicants whose prior school and study results are not considered equivalent to the German Abitur can prepare at a Studienkolleg after passing an entrance exam.
- Studienkolleg places are limited and in high demand.
- Applicants must acquire the required German level themselves; the university offers no German preparation courses for the Studienkolleg.
- Studienkolleg München serves all Bavarian universities, but the application goes through the university where one wants to study.
- The page points to the Kultusministerkonferenz (anabin) database and the DAAD database for checking which qualifications count as university entrance qualifications.
- Persons with foreign certificates must apply for all degree types and all programmes.
- The official admission decision is provided as a PDF in the Campusportal.
- The university's admissions pages do not mention the IB Diploma specifically.
