How to apply

Applications for restricted (NC UP) first-semester programmes go through the PULS portal and the DoSV of the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung. Programmes without an NC need no application; the applicant files an online enrolment request instead. Required documents are uploaded in PULS, not sent by post.

Language requirements

  • German-taught bachelor programmes and Rechtswissenschaft require German at CEFR level C1 for enrolment and the start of studies.
  • Exceptions to the C1 rule: the bachelor 'Angewandte Kultur- und Translationsstudien (deutsch-polnisch)' requires B2, and 'Anglophone Postcolonial Studies' requires no German.
  • Some bachelor programmes require English as set out in their study and examination regulations. This is usually proven by a practical language aptitude exam or a recognised equivalent, without a CEFR level.
  • Applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification must prove sufficient German at the latest by enrolment.
  • Further language proofs for bachelor programmes (French, Italian, Latin, Polish, Russian, Spanish) are usually met through a practical language aptitude exam or a recognised equivalent.

Deadlines

  • Application for restricted programmes for the winter semester: until 15 July (exclusion deadline) via PULS.
  • Coordinated follow-up procedure (if places remain after the coordination phase): 28 August to 30 September; participation must be declared to hochschulstart.de between 25 August and 27 August.
  • Local lottery procedure for remaining places: application by 15 October via PULS.

Worth knowing

  • First-semester applications for restricted bachelor programmes and Erste juristische Prüfung Rechtswissenschaft are possible only for the winter semester.
  • Applying for a higher subject semester is possible for both winter and summer semester within the application deadlines.
  • All restricted programmes in the first semester take part in the DoSV. After the coordination phase only one admission is possible.
  • Up to three admission applications can be made at the university. A second-degree applicant may submit only one.
  • An application is also required if one of the combination subjects has no NC.
  • Proof of a passed aptitude exam must be available by the application deadline.
  • Applicants with a foreign school qualification must first have it recognised as a university entrance qualification for Brandenburg, either via the Staatliches Schulamt Cottbus or via uni-assist e.V. Recognition must reach the university by the application deadline, and processing time should be planned generously.
  • Graduates of a Studienkolleg who already have an evaluation of their foreign certificate need no new evaluation after the Feststellungsprüfung.
  • The university's admissions pages contain no statement on the IB Diploma, IB points, or IB subject requirements.
