How to apply
Applicants with an IB Diploma must submit their documents for review to the service centre uni-assist. This also applies to an IB Diploma earned at a German school; the country of the qualification is then given as Switzerland. Exception: German citizens with foreign qualifications who want to study medicine, dentistry or pharmacy in the 1st subject semester apply to the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (hochschulstart.de). Applying at uni-assist requires registration, then one or more online applications, then online upload of the required documents. The review only takes place if all documents are complete and submitted on time.
Courses with restricted admission
- Medicine (first semester): applications go through hochschulstart.de
- Dentistry (first semester): applications go through hochschulstart.de
- Pharmacy (first semester): applications go through hochschulstart.de
Deadlines
- Foreign qualification, admission-restricted programme (1-subject Bachelor, 2-subject Bachelor, Master): summer semester by 02.01., winter semester by 01.07., application via uni-assist
- Foreign qualification, admission-free programme: summer semester by 15.01., winter semester by 15.07., review by uni-assist
- Medicine (winter semester), dentistry (winter semester), pharmacy (winter and summer semester): summer semester deadline 15.01. for both old and new Abitur holders, via hochschulstart.de
- Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, winter semester: 'old Abitur' holders (qualification obtained before 16.01. of the application year) by 31.05.; 'new Abitur' holders (obtained 16.01. to 15.07.) 01.06. to 15.07., via hochschulstart.de
- All deadlines are exclusion deadlines
- Documents should be submitted early because uni-assist processing can take up to several weeks
- Admission-free Master programmes: suitability must additionally be checked directly at CAU Kiel, in addition to the uni-assist review
Worth knowing
- Applicants of all nationalities (including German citizens) with foreign qualifications, explicitly including the IB Diploma, must have their documents checked by uni-assist
- Direct application to CAU instead of uni-assist is possible in certain cases, e.g. a Studienkolleg Hamburg completion, a valid equivalence certificate, a uni-assist review report received for Kiel within the last 3 years, or a German university entrance qualification obtained at a German school abroad
- Foreign university entrance qualifications can generally be recognised for study at CAU Kiel
- Some programmes require additional entry requirements such as foreign language skills; Sport Science and Art require a special aptitude test
- Admission-restricted programmes are allocated by Abitur grade and waiting time; cut-offs are not set by the university but result from each semester's admission procedure
