How to apply

Direct application to the University via its online application portal, uploading all documents (no postal documents). Applies to non-EU/EEA applicants to undergraduate programs.

Language requirements

  • English at CEFR level B2 is required in addition to German for Archaeologies, Geography, Economics and Computer Science, Economics Major and Minor, Media Studies, Molecular Biomedicine and Musicology/Sound Studies
  • The English certificate must be submitted by the application deadline
  • English proof can be waived if the language of instruction in secondary school or a completed Bachelor's degree was English; official confirmation from the school/university is required
  • Accepted English tests include TOEFL iBT with minimum 72 (test date score; TOEFL ITP not accepted), IELTS Academic with overall band 5.5, Cambridge English B2 First, TELC English B2, PTE Academic 59, UNICERT II (Vantage)

Courses with restricted admission

  • German-French Studies (BA) and German-Italian Studies (BA) have specific selection procedures; applicants should contact the program coordinators directly

Deadlines

  • Winter semester: complete application documents must be uploaded by July 15 (application period begins early June)
  • Summer semester: complete application documents must be uploaded by January 15 (application period begins early December)

Worth knowing

  • The IB Diploma is recognized as a university entrance qualification if obtained after at least twelve ascending school years of full-time schooling and if it meets the conditions of the KMK agreement on recognition of the IB Diploma (resolution of 10 March 1986, as amended 15 June 2023; for exams up to and including 2024 the version of 24 March 2022 applies)
  • IB applicants should upload: the IB Diploma or the official IBO Transcript of Grades (if already available), an overview of subjects and grades of the two-year IB program, and the leaving certificate of the 10th school year
  • If the IB certificate is not yet available, applicants should request their IB results via the IBO Request Service so the University can retrieve them digitally by the application deadline
  • Documents not in German, English or French must be uploaded with a translation by a sworn translator
  • The University may request certified copies of documents by post during the first semester; enrolment may be revoked if they cannot be provided
  • Master's programs are admitted decentrally by faculties/departments; this page does not give IB-specific information for them
  • Molecular Biomedicine and Greek (Teaching Bachelor) admits must complete an online self-assessment and upload the result at enrolment
