Studying at Universität Heidelberg with the IB

A formal application submitted by the deadline is required for all degree programmes. Foreign university entrance qualifications are recognised during the admission procedure after a complete and timely application, using the ZAB evaluation framework. Programme pages under 'All subjects' show the applicable admission procedure, documents and any subject-specific selection regulations.

• All undergraduate programmes and all German-taught master's programmes require very good knowledge of German; proof must be submitted before studies start, either at application or at enrolment depending on the programme.
• English-taught master's programmes require very good English; the specific requirements are in the subject-specific admission regulations of each programme.
• Some degree programmes additionally require skills in other modern and/or ancient languages; details are in the programme's admission or study and examination regulations.

• A higher-education entrance qualification is the basic requirement for undergraduate enrolment.
• Non-German qualifications are assessed with the evaluation framework of the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).
• If the ZAB framework rates a foreign qualification as only partially comparable to the German Abitur, the applicant can apply to take an assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) in the university's preparatory course (Studienkolleg).
• Depending on the programme, further subject-specific admission requirements and selection criteria may apply, and admission may require a selection process.
